Widdrington Farm has been in Hugh Annett's family since 1515.
Through the generations the farm itself has seen many changes, none more so than in recent times. Sadly in 2001 the farm fell victim to foot and mouth crisis and saw the entire herd of cattle and sheep destroyed.
Rather than give in to this disaster, Hugh re stocked the farm and together with his partner, Sarah decided to start a new venture that would inject a new lease of life to the business.
The first phase was The Country Barn farm shop. It opened its doors to the public for the first time August 10th 2006. This was followed in early Spring 2007 by the coffee shop/cyber café.
The logo for The Country Barn is Widdrington Castle. It once stood proudly behind the farm house. Unfortunately it was partially burned down some time ago.
A local man tried to re build it but after he ran into financial difficulty the Castle was demolished and the stone was used to build some of the houses in the village including the vicarage.
All that remains of the protected site today is the Castle mound and a row of lime trees, known as The Apostles.
