Widdrington Village is located approximately 10 miles North East of Morpeth town centre and only 3 miles east of the A1. Many people like to visit this area during both winter and summer months, mostly due to the fact that there are miles of unspoilt sandy beach stretching along the North East coast literally a stones throw from The Country Barn gates.
Within half an hours drive you can reach many other places of interest including the award winning Alnwick Garden www.alnwickgarden.com that appeals to children as well as adults. The Tree house, the Poison garden and the water cascade are just some of the exciting features found hear. Adjoining the gardens you will find the grand setting of Alnwick Castle- still home the Percy family and also the setting the first Harry Potter film. This will no doubt capture the mind of any child who wants to re-enact scenes from the film!
Woodhorn Colliery opened its doors in 2006 and is the only coalmining museum in Northumberland. It is set in Queen Elizabeth II Country Park and offers visitors a real insight to life as a miner with old colliery buildings, paintings and exhibitions.
Druridge Bay Country Park is on the same bus route as The Country Barn. The 518 bus route runs from Newcastle city centre to Alnwick and stops at Widdrington Village as well as the Country Park. There is a lake surrounded by woods and meadows as well as miles of sandy beach and dunes to walk along and enjoy the wildlife in their natural environment.
